Great Spot That I Drove over Everyday

On my way to class I drive over a bridge. I do this everyday without thinking anything of it. Today I took notice to the hill in front of it, that the drainage ramp was smooth and that it seemed to go all the way under the bridge.

A few hours passes and when the time came to go home and pass over it one more time, I stopped. I parked my car in a random field walked over and instantly ran back for my board.

Down the smooth mellow ramp is a steep drop to what can only be called the essence of skating. under a bridge with and aqua duct cleared out from a recent rain, I realized why skating has yet to fade. It is these moments that make skating great, even though it was random and if it rains the spot will become unskatable. That spot will always be special. Up and down nice slopes in and out of pilers dodging rocks, down massive hills, and of course some metal scrap that made its way under the bridge.

Send me a picture of your special spot.

The worlds largest skate baord

This is a pretty awesome video. I just want to know how much it cost him to make this board!

Granted its pretty awesome but I know for a fact Foundry would have just given away a lot of gear instead of making a giant board. Whatever, this is awesome and I shouldn't take that away from him.

That being said, what would you do with a giant skateboard? Maybe the mega mini? jk

Skateboarding Blues

Have you ever been skating and asked yourself... why am I doing this right now? Lately I've been really fed up with skating. It might be that the skate park is getting old, or it could be that I really need to learn something new. What ever it is it sucks massively.

I think that the worse thing about skating is that you can never do something for the first time again. You have to progress in order to get that feeling again. Its like an addiction it really pulls you through the crap when you can't get anything else down.

That being said. I have to ask, is winter getting on anyone else or is it just me?

These guys are pretty good.

Check out where they skate, some pretty amazing stuff they found. Anyone know of anywhere like that?

The Essence of Skating

I've been doing a lot of write ups lately. When I was looking at the stats I realized that they posts that get the most views are the posts that are about my thoughts on skating. I realize that skating isn't about who is best of what trick was done when, but instead its about expression. Like art, or music, skateboarding isn't something that you do for other people but you do it for yourself.  Truly amazing skaters skate for there own love, not because someone told them too. No pro skater started out making money, each one of them had to fall a lot before they could rise to fame. They love the sport even if it is how they put to bread on the table.

The topic of the day is, would you give it up? What if someone offered you a career in skateboarding but told you that you couldn't skate your style. What if you love to be smooth and and clean that they offered you 100 grand a year to be rough and sketchy?

Would it still be art? Would this take away the essence of skating or simply force you to be well rounded? Is skateboarding about what you can do or how you do it?

I don't want to say what I think, I want your opinion on this. Leave a comment, and let me know.

Some Old School Video and Some New

Ok as you have probably figured out by now, I love documentaries. Here is an old British documentary about the Z boys. Its pretty awesome, kinda. Its about an hour long so if you wanna watch it, get yourself situated.

Check us out on facebook http://www.facebook.com/foundryskateboarding

For those of you that don't really want to spend an hour watching some old documentary I've got something here for you too. It's called Canvas. This is a modern documentary that lasts about 20 minutes, (there is more but I didn't want to post it) This Doc. is more about modern skating subculture. It's pretty cool, kind of talks about what non skate culture thinks about skate culture and how skaters reactions to that judgmental attitude has made the skate culture into the unstoppable tornado that it is today.

If you enjoy Foundry Skateboarding get a hold of me and order a deck. I made them inexpensive and most of the time they last for a month or two. Unless you throw them and snap them for fun.... why people do that I have no idea.

The Shoes at Rose Park

There are some shoes on the tele wire by the skate park. Now normally when you see shoes on a wire you think "oh shoot drug dealer live around here" Well lets be honest thats why shoe tossing started. As it turns out, its not even close to the reason for the shoe hanging by the skate park.

The reason for the shoes on the wire starts out in a store.

A skater will go through a pair of shoes pretty quick but sometimes last years, depending on some stuff. Of course that skater will need to by more shoes.

On my first pair of shoes I have learned to drop in on a 2ft, a 4ft, a 6ft, a mini ramp, I have learned rock to fakie, to 5-0, I have learned to ollie (kinda), I have met upwards of 50 people a good amount of them people who I call my friends, I have skated miles on roads, hours on sidewalks, I have riped toe nails off, fallen hard, sat and chilled when I just can't skate anymore, and to be honest I would love to show the world that my shoes lived a life that is worth showing.

That is just what shoes over a skate park means. It says that these shoes were good. It says that these shoes have memories tied to them, that when I got new ones that it was tough to part with them. Shoes over a skate park say in a nut shell, ""Good times"

It is the essence of skating, good times falling hard, and learning a new trick. There are stories to those shoes.

What have your shoes seen?

So we might have a problem

Foundry Skateboarding has hit a snag. As you all know our business setup is simple, be a rep sell one deck a month and when I have 10 reps one rep then becomes a scout.

This whole business idea is based off of one concept. Give a man a fish, or teach the man to fish. We want our reps to learn to start a little business. Its only a min. of one deck a month, weather its your own, or a friends wants one its just one deck a month.

Now what is the snag that we have hit?

Well we want to get t-shirts and stickers so that when you become a rep you get that stuff with your deck. The problem is, we haven't sold any decks. Flat broke until these boards get sold and without the much needed change they won't get sold. I know that we need to make being a rep more connective, make tournies, phone calls, just keep in touch. That is something that we must do in order to move forward. Does anyone have any ideas how to get the ball to start rolling again? I need help, and I would love to hear what you have to say?

Jacob

If you were hoping to read about skating im sorry, but just watch some vids from the last post ;)
